Chrome Extension Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 11, 2026
This policy covers the Resume Refiner Chrome extension specifically: what it sends to us, what it keeps on your device, and what it does not do. Your Resume Refiner account is also covered by our main privacy policy, which applies wherever you use the service.
What the extension sends to us
Every request the extension makes goes to our own servers at www.resumerefiner.ai. It sends data to no one else.
- Account details. Your name, email address, and password when you sign in or create an account, so we can authenticate you and reach your saved resumes. You can sign in either in the side panel or through a browser sign-in window, and in both cases the credentials go only to us.
- Your resume. The file you upload from the side panel, and the text we parse out of it. This is the same resume storage described in our main privacy policy.
- The job posting you ask about. When you click to check a job, the extension sends that page's address, its title, the employer, and the text of the posting, so we can score it against your resume. If the extension cannot read the page itself, it sends us the address alone and our server fetches the posting.
Nothing is sent while you browse. The extension notices when you change tabs so the panel is ready, but that check reads only what is already available in the page and contacts our servers only after you ask for a score. We do not receive the addresses of pages you did not ask us about.
What the extension stores on your device
The following is kept in the browser's local extension storage, on your computer:
- Sign-in tokens, so you are not asked to sign in on every use.
- Your name and email, to show who is signed in.
- Which of your resumes is selected, and its filename.
- The list of job sites you have chosen to enable, and a cached copy of the supported-sites list we publish.
Signing out clears the tokens and your account details. Removing the extension deletes all of it.
How the data is used
Your resume and the job posting are processed to produce your match score and your refinement suggestions. That processing uses third-party AI providers, currently Anthropic's Claude API, as described in our main privacy policy. Your content is not used to train AI models and is not shared with other users.
What the extension does not do
- It does not sell or rent your data. We do not sell personal information to anyone.
- It does not collect your browsing history, and it contains no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics code.
- It does not read your Chrome profile or your Google account. The browser's identity feature is used only to carry out the sign-in you started.
- It does not modify the pages you visit, fill in forms, or submit anything on your behalf. It reads the text of a job posting and nothing else.
- It does not transfer your data to third parties for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose, or for creditworthiness or lending decisions.
Permissions and why they are needed
- Site access on job boards. To read the posting you are looking at. The extension is installed with access to a short list of job-posting addresses on sites such as LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor and Wellfound.
- Access to other sites, only if you ask. If you want the extension to work on a site we do not cover, you grant that access yourself, and you can withdraw it at any time from Chrome's extensions page.
- Access to resumerefiner.ai. Our own API, where your account and resumes live.
- Tabs and side panel. To know which page you are viewing and to show the panel beside it.
- Identity. To open the sign-in window and receive the result.
- Alarms. To refresh the supported-sites list once a day.
Limited use
Our collection and use of information received through the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Retention and deletion
Data sent from the extension is stored with your account and follows the retention and deletion terms in our main privacy policy: you can delete individual refinements immediately, and deleting your account permanently removes your data within 60 days. Removing the extension clears everything it stored locally, but does not delete your account.
Changes to this policy
If the extension begins collecting something not described here, this page will be updated before that version is published.
